"Volunteering at the Barclays…it’s like letting a sugar addict loose in a candy shop!"

greg miller, rmThe Reverend Greg Miller is a member of the Somerset Hills YMCA and has served on the Board of Directors for eight years. Greg loves to golf so, the first day that the opportunity to volunteer this year at the Barclays Golf Tournament came round, Greg was one of the first to sign up. "To me, it's like letting a sugar addict loose in a candy shop!"

From August 24 - 29, 2010 at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus NJ, Greg will volunteer at the Barclays for part of the week as a hole marshal. In return, he will receive a great package of benefits at this first event in the PGA Tour 2010 Playoffs for the FedExCup. Having paid a $50 registration fee, volunteers receive a Barclays logo polo, Barclays logo baseball cap or visor, a volunteer badge and guest pass valid for entry on any day the entire week, a volunteer parking pass, lunch on the days worked, admission to the volunteer appreciation party and a volunteer pin.

Greg volunteered last year as a hole marshal and said he really enjoyed every minute. Volunteering the first two days during the practice rounds, Greg was able to enjoy chatting with some of the top players who were very relaxed. "There were hardly any members of the public there," said Greg, "and some of the golfers were really friendly, signing autographs and joking with us all. The fact that I was able to choose when I could work made the whole week so easy; it was very flexible. You can even do half days if need be. When you're not volunteering, you can bring a guest and enjoy a great day of golf as a spectator."

By volunteering at the Barclays, you not only get to enjoy participating in a great event, but you also help support the Y's Strong Kids Campaign. The Y receives a portion of proceeds based on the number of volunteers that represent our organization. Volunteers can register online where you'll be asked to select the Somerset Hills YMCA as your charity of choice.

If you don't have the time to volunteer but still want to enjoy the Barclays and support the Somerset Hills YMCA, you can purchase tickets online where, if you input the Somerset Hills YMCA's code TBYLOL, 100% of the net proceeds will go to charity -- 75% to the Somerset Hills YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign that ensures that all individuals can benefit from programs and services regardless of their ability to pay and 25% will go to The First Tee of Metropolitan New York, a program that teaches young people life skills through golf. Through TICKETS Fore CHARITY, you can experience the best professional golf, all while positively impacting the lives of those in need in our own community.

Greg adds, "Even if you are a casual golfer, you'd be crazy not to volunteer at this great event."
