Lap after lap around the school field. One recess period after another. Rain and some sun. Laughter and some healthy competition. See what one young YMCA member did to help raise money for the Strong Kids Campaign.
"I know there are kids in our town who can't participate in YMCA programs because their parents can't afford it. I thought that was sad because I love the Y; that's when I decided to raise money to help other kids go to the Y," says Dylan Wachenfeld, a fourth grader at Cedar Hill Elementary School.

The school's charity walkathon was a resounding success. Many kids from every grade gave up their free time, the monkey bars and their jump ropes to walk lap after lap to raise money for their chosen charity. Dylan walked a total of 87 laps and raised $185 for Strong Kids, the financial assistance program of the Somerset Hills YMCA. Strong Kids supports anyone and everyone regardless of age. It means that everyone in our community can enjoy and benefit from programs and services at the Somerset Hills YMCA regardless of their ability to pay. It also means that the next time Dylan makes a new friend at the Y, it could be someone he's helped to be there!
Staff and volunteers at the Y are so proud of him -- in fact at Y-Night at the Patriots, Dylan was asked to throw out the first pitch in recognition of his caring and kindness. "I feel great about raising so much money to help others and it's good to know that it really will make a difference for someone else."
