Helping to Build a Better tomorrow...TOGETHER Susan Doherty & Jack Welch Together, Susan Doherty and Jack Welch took on the daunting task of co-chairing the Somerset Hills YMCA’s tomorrow... TOGETHER! Capital Campaign in 1998. Their charge was to motivate volunteers, members and the entire community to support the extensive, and much-needed, expansion of the Y’s flagship facility on Mt. Airy Road…and they did it. Thanks to their passion, dedication, and effort, nearly $8 million was raised, surpassing the original goal. The YMCA completed the expansion and celebrated its Grand Opening in January 2007, almost 10 years after Jack and Sue first led the charge. “I am so proud to see -- and to be a part of -- the incredible things the Y is doing in this community,” says Susan. “The tomorrow... TOGETHER! campaign provided us with an amazing new building, but more important, it helped ensure that we remain focused on our mission -- to build strong kids, strong families, and a strong community.” “I am awed by the level of use we are now experiencing at the YMCA,” says Jack. “The scope of our facilities exceeded my wildest fantasy.” The new facility has enabled the Y to expand its program offerings, services and community outreach to better serve the needs of the diverse and growing population of the Somerset Hills."
