POLICIES & PROCEDURES
When you come into the Y

Bring your membership identification card.
Scan your card at our check in station so that we know you're in the building in case of emergency.
You will also need your card if you travel.

Attire

Wear appropriate fitness attire when using the fitness room or gym. Bring a towel, lock, suit and bathing cap (for hair longer than chin length) when using the pool.  Bring lock to lock up your belongings while using facility.

Renewals

Members must renew on or before the expiration date on their card for continuous use of the facilities. Members who do not renew their membership within 30 days after expiration will be subject to the new member fee and will not be considered renewing members. Your renewal date is your join date anniversary. This does not apply to bank draft, which is a perpetual membership.
Locker rental fees (Mount Airy Road facility only) Please check for availability before renting a locker. Six-month rental is $25, one year rental is $50. For more information contact
Transfers A full privilege member of another YMCA may transfer membership to the YMCA after a change of residence. Proof of valid membership will be requested from the sending YMCA. Membership fees are non-transferable, but the initiation fee is waived. 
Cancellations and changes The YMCA reserves the right to:
Cancel classes if there is insufficient enrollment.
Close in inclement weather.
Change schedules, rates and fees without prior notice when necessary.
Cancel classes for Somerset Hills YMCA special activities.
Class refund policy Refund requests for classes may be completed at the Member Service Desk. Refund requests must be submitted prior to the third week of class. Please note that after Week 2 of the class, refunds will be issued for medical reasons only, and must be accompanied by a doctor's note. Refunds will be prorated based on the number of classes attended. Memberships and initiation fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. A $5 processing fee will be charged if you change or drop a class, unless the change is due at the request or need of the YMCA.
Lost card policy There is an $10 replacement fee for lost membership cards.
Lost and found The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items. The lost and found closet is located just beyond the Welcome Center. Items that are unclaimed will be donated to charity at the end of each month.
Change of address, additional family members  If your address has changed or there is an addition to your family, please let us know by submitting the Membership Update Form.
Return check/draft fee There is a $25 service fee for all returned checks/bank drafts.

For your child's safety

For safety reasons, infants are not permitted in the wellness center, pool area or in fitness classes. To help accommodate parents of children under 6 months old, please contact our Babysitting Coordinator, to make individual arrangements.  Additional wellness center youth policies:

  • Children between ages of 10-13 must past the Youth Strength Training program to utilize the wellness center.
  • Children under age 13 must be accompanied with an adult in the wellness center at all times. 
  • Children, under age 18, cannot bring a guest to use the facilities. A parent/guardian age 18 or older must sign in an underage guest and remain onsite within the YMCA for this guest to utilize the facility.

Membership Terminations: The YMCA requires 30 days written notice for membership terminations.  Members must complete the Membership Edit form located at the YMCA Welcome Center.

Freezing Memberships:  The YMCA offers our members a courtesy membership freeze one time per year for up to 3 months.  There is a $10 fee charged for each month that the membership is frozen.   Members must complete the Membership Edit form located at the YMCA Welcome Center
 

Reciprocal Agreement:  The YMCA Passport program entitles our members to work out at the Madison Area Y, the Metro Ys of the Oranges, Summit Area Y and Somerset Hills Y.   You must maintain a membership at your home Y and this will be confirmed regularly.  You will only receive the program discount at your home Y.   You must complete a membership application at the passport Y and on your first visit provide a photo ID and your home Y membership card.

Memberships are non-refundable and are not transferable

Be our Guest! Guest Policy
Members may bring one guest per visit for up to 5 free visits using their membership card. After 5 guest visits (per membership unit), a member may bring an adult guest for a fee of $20; members 17 years old and younger do not have guest privileges. Those with Youth Memberships may bring a chaperone to participate in activities with them 3 times at no charge. After 3 chaperone visits, there is a $20 fee. We invite guests to participate in our many activities at no charge, such as open gym; lane, family or open swim; Wellness Center (before using, complete an informed consent form at the Member Service Desk) and much more!

For SAFETY reasons, the Y's Guest Policy is as follows:

  • Use of the wellness center as a guest requires a complete waiver of liability.
  • Five visitor passes are allowed per year, per membership unit.
  • A guest is one individual.
  • Guests without an accompanying member cannot be admitted.

AWAY (Always Welcome at the Y)
Out-of-state full privilege YMCA members will be admitted at no charge. In-state full privilege YMCA members (outside a 50-mile radius of the Somerset Hills YMCA) will be admitted at no charge. In-state full privilege YMCA members within a 50-mile radius of the Somerset Hills YMCA will be admitted for a $10 fee at Mt. Airy Rd facility and a $5 fee at Riverwalk. After one month, all out-of-town YMCA members must pay $5 per visit. The wellness center may be used after the completion of an informed consent form which is available at the Welcome Center.

Try the Y Pass
Any person wishing to use the Somerset Hills YMCA on a trial basis may obtain a special Try the Y pass at the time of their tour. With the Try the Y pass, all activities available to members may be tried.
