Planning outings for the Spring Session at the Somerset Hills YMCA? It was a long winter! Now it is time to meet new friends, breathe in some fresh air and exercise in the great outdoors! If the Wednesday outing is planned as a bike ride and it is raining, we will switch to a hike if the rain is not too heavy. Check your email by 7:00am the morning of the event for inclement weather update.

Thursday “FITNESS HIKES”MA
“Fitness Hikes” offer an opportunity to connect with the beauty & serenity of the natural world while challenging you physically, and providing time for you to connect with friends old & new. It’s time to take all of the great training you’ve done indoors all winter, and get outside on the trail!
Leave your “To Do Lists” behind. Put on your hiking shoes, and get in tune with the rhythm of nature on a nearby trail…. An experience that will leave you refreshed and energized!
The Fitness Level Hike covers approximately 7-8 miles of moderate to hilly terrain at a Vigorous pace. Important to sign up in advance for outings and get on email list of leaders for updated info regarding weather/trail conditions or any changes in meeting time/place/date.
Dress in layers, wear sturdy footwear, bring a hearty snack, 2 water bottles, sun block, insect repellent, a lightweight backpack and an adventurous spirit!

Wednesday “BIKE RIDES” or “FITNESS HIKES”MA Grab your bike and join us for scenic bike rides past meadows and farms. Increase your fitness while taking in the beauty of the NJ countryside. Some bike outings may include riding on “rail trails” or canal paths.These “off road” rides require a mountain/hybrid bike. The other rides will be on roadways, suitable for road bikes. The distance of the bike rides will vary depending on if it is a road ride or a mountain/hybrid ride, and on the difficulty of the terrain. Most rides will be 15-30 miles. Terrain will vary from somewhat flat to hilly as we do live in the hills of Somerset County! Details of the weekly Wednesday bike rides will be sent out via email 3 days before the scheduled outing with specifics of distance, level and type of bike needed. In case of wet weather, the Wed bike ride will convert to a hike if the rain is not heavy.
The Outings will be Fitness Hikes or Bike Rides, weather dependent. If it is wet, we will not ride bikes on the roadways. Outing will be a hike! Wed. outings May to Oct. will probably be Bike Rides and Nov. to April will probably be Hikes.

$5 members, $10 potential members. Space limited to 15 people. Guaranteed space for advance registration either online or at the MA Welcome Center.
Essentials for a Safe & Fun Bicycle Outing Bike must be in good working order with a patch kit, spare tube and bike pump or CO2 cartridge. Helmets are required. Bring adequate water and snack suitable for the bike ride planned. Bring money in case we stop at a General Store along the way. If medications are needed, please carry on the ride or notify your leader and storage will be provided.
Canceled Fitness Hike or Bicycle Outing
Canceled outings due to inclement weather, road/trail conditions will be determined the morning of the event by 7am via email. Alternate plans will be announced at this time via email.
