VOLUNTEERISM

ImageVolunteers are the heart of the Y-an integral part of helping us fulfill our Mission to build strong kids, strong families, strong communities and to improve people's lives in spirit, mind and body.

The Somerset Hills YMCA has over 400 individuals, youth and adults, making a difference by volunteering their time, energy, and skills in various ways at the Y. Many great opportunities are available for youths needing to fulfill community service hours.

There are many opportunities for youth to volunteer at the Somerset Hills YMCA. Depending on interests and skills, our Director of Volunteer Services helps teens interested in volunteering, or looking to fulfill required volunteer service hours, find their perfect spot. Whether it be working with children in sports programs, assisting in the pool, or helping in the administrative offices, there are many opportunities for teens to help make a difference at the YMCA.

Service Learning Opportunities

In August 2007, teens from the Somerset Hills YMCA took part in a five day learning program at Heifer International’s Overlook Farm in Massachusetts. This excursion was designed to raise awareness about world hunger and poverty, while educating and empowering young people to take action. Participants learned how underdeveloped countries live on a daily basis including participating in fetching water, making fires, etc.
