The Somerset Hills YMCA Saturdays in Motion program serves over 70 children with autism and their families with recreational activities in a comfortable and safe environment. This program would not be around today without the help and hard work of Art Raynes, a longtime volunteer at the YMCA.

Where Would You Go?
A Story of Hope as told by Elaine Keith
Who would have thought that a woman classified as special needs as an adolescent, who endured her infant son’s diagnosis and recovery from infant leukemia, and his subsequent diagnosis of autism, would consider herself lucky? Well, I do. My son is still with us and I have hope. My YMCA story started in my youth, in Virginia, when the kids at school rejected me because I was different; but, the YMCA accepted me and encouraged me to dream big and try hard (and win awards for them in swimming!).

A Volunteer Story
Teaching a child to master the breast stroke, seeing smiling faces and hearing the laughter of children splash around in the pool are reasons Molly Hahn volunteers at the Somerset Hills YMCA. Molly, one of this year’s recipients for “Youth Volunteer of the Year,” has been volunteering at the YMCA for 8 years. An ideal example of a volunteer, she has learned the value of patience and responsibility and how to appreciate the little moments in life.
